Elly Slingenberg was born in Bierum, Netherlands in 1937 and currently lives and works in Arnhem. She completed a two-year course in Classical Drawing and Painting at The Fine Arts Academy in Arnhem. During this period she also studied at The Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and finally graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Amsterdam (1959-1963)
After graduating she developed a free-style of painting while she was a student working in ‘Ateliers’ 63 in Haarlem. She also made study tours to North America, West Africa (Ivory Coast, Mali, Burkino Faso) and she participated in various exhibitions abroad and at home.
Her work is owned by private individuals, and by Institutions and Companies, both at home and abroad. In 1963 she received a commission from a comprehensive school in The State of New Jersey to paint a series of ten paintings. With some of her larger commissions, specifically wall paintings, she has close co-operation from architects, but of course she is the one who executes the commission. Some of these known works are:
“Light to work by”
“Light for outlook”
“Light as perspective”.
“Light as a first creation”
“There must be light and there was light”
The main theme of her paintings is “the light, the heaven and the earth”
The ‘explosion of the silence of the light’ forms the nucleus of her work
